About

Immersia Events is the trade name of sole trader Johanna Ahonen. Under this banner, the aim is to organise fantasy-themed events.

The name emerged from a desire to somehow reference the immersive, everyday-eclipsing experience that a well-crafted fantasy event can offer. At the same time, Immersia could equally be the name of a fantasy realm — which makes it a perfect fit.

The Immersia Events logo was designed by Johanna's husband Jani Kujanen, who is a graphic designer.

High Lady of the Rivercourt

I am the sole trader behind the idea for the River Court Autumn Ball. I have read and loved fantasy (and sci-fi) since my teenage years — I now have close to 35 years of experience with the genre.

I am an enthusiastic enthusiast, an eternal bookworm, a warm-hearted dreamer who sees the best in everyone.

Favourite fandom: At the moment I’d say the Maasverse (ACOTAR, Throne of Glass, Crescent City) books and Heated Rivalry. But my forever faves also include Lord of the Rings and many others, like Doctor Who and Star Wars.

Book recommendation: The Earthsea novels by Ursula Le Guin. They are my origin story novels and my gateway into fantasy back in the early 1990’s.

A fun fact about me: I remember my car’s licence plate letters with the help of Xaden, Tamlin and Kingfisher (although I wouldn’t mind a different name to mark the T…)

Program Elf

I am a fantasy enthusiast and somebody who loves all animals. I teach languages as a day job and do art on my freetime.

I designed and painted the event poster. In the organizing team I have been responsible for program related tasks.

Favourite fandom: Middle Earth, especially the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I also love Star Wars, Game of Thrones and Supernatural.

Book recommendation: I recently read Karsten Dusse’s book “Murders and mindfulness”, which was an absurd combination of gang violence and finding of inner peace.

A fun fact about me: I'm a metalhead and I've been to at least one festival each summer for 20 years straight. Not even the covid pandemic broke this streak. I also wrote my master's thesis about metal music.

Kaisa Rosendahl

Kaisa Rosendahl

Scriptwriter

I am Noppanoita, Kaisa, Mrs. DM... anything goes, really. A Turku-based tabletop RPG and fantasy lover, and my title is The Lore Witch. I am the scriptwriter for the ball, and have created Elo, the goddess celebrated at the ball, and the evening’s events stem from my pen.

Favorite fandom? Avalonia, the setting for the ball and my Dungeons & Dragons games, of course! But outside of that, I love horror literature, and my all-time favourite book is Stephen King's Lisey's Story.

Fun fact about me: I named my cat after my favourite D&D character. Rilla the cat does not possess the same stoic dignity Rilla the Paladin does, but she is still one very sweet kitty.

Mira Penttilä

Mira Penttilä

Kaikkitunteva / Lumira

Hi, I'm Mira, your local corsetiere and seamstress. I tend to live in my own bubble to escape the bbeg (read: the world).

I'm the guy guy of the team as we found out that I have a guy for a lot of things. I'm also taking care of our volunteers.

I've always been a reader and a fangirl. Last few years I've been hanging out around the bookternet in different ways. Mainly as an observer lately. I read a lot of genres and my fantasy nerdiness is more of a general kind. Lately been very into D&D. Choosing a fave fandom is tricky as it's been a while since I've been involved in a fandom. I adore queer literature. Currently I'm way too deep into Heated Rivalry and hockey romance in general. And hockey as a sport.

Book rec: Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid (the full cast audio book is amazing). Or basically anything else by TJR. Amazing writer, amazing stories.

Fun fact: I've been told I'm ready to be a dad as my jokes are so horribly bad.

Kristiina Marttila

Disco Queen

I am Kristiina, 32, and I live in Turku with three cats. I work as a waitress at a local lunch restaurant near the city center.

My free time is mainly spent at home reading, playing games or watching movies/series. I also do crafts, go to the gym and go hiking whenever possible.

I already have experience with Fantasy Balls abroad (UK). I have been to the UK four times in the last two years and the next trip is already booked for the turn of October/November.

I am responsible for maintaining the Discord server of our ball and have acted as an "experience expert"

Favourite fandom: It's impossible to choose just one, so here are three that I love: Lord of The Rings, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural.

Book recommendation: Seals of Solomon by J.D.Miles

A fun fact about me: I tend to add things on my to do -list quicker than I get to actually do them.

Maija Lintunokka

Maija Lintunokka

Tech Shapeshifter / @tenebrie

Hi! I'm Maija, and while I wear many different hats in my life, here I am helping with the technical side. I even made this very website!

My free time is usually spent at home one way or another, be it making a game, DMing, writing or checking out the latest games just to put them aside without ever finishing them. I am also a published artist on Spotify, but it's a very sporadic hobby for me.

Favourite fandom: Do the fantasy balls count as a fandom? 🤔

Book recommendation: Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey.

A fun fact about me: I'm a certified PADI mermaid, and hopefully in the future will earn the instructor title as well!
